   Town of Craik

We recently received this wonderful post in our guestbook and thought we would share it with everyone on our website. It really speaks to what living in Craik means to people both past and present!

"My name is Tammie Gross Beekman and I was born in Craik in 1975. I lived there about 6 years before moving to Texas where I live now with my family. My mother, Carol Respki was also born in Canada, where she was raised all her life. My papa Peter Repski owned Wilcar for many years before retiring and moving with my nana Doreen Repski to Regina. I have other family members that also live in Canada still. I love visiting the site, It brings back so many wonderful memories. I would visit every summer for 3 months until school went back in. Thank you for the site and all the pictures you put up, I love showing my children where I was so lucky to grow up and visit."

Town of Craik

Craik is a progressive town in south central Saskatchewan, Canada,  incorporated on August 1, 1907. It is strategically located along

Provincial Highway 11 (Louis Riel Trail), 140 km southeast of Saskatoon and 117 km northwest of Regina.

Our town slogan is "Friendliest Place by a Dam Site," which we are!

The town's economy is based largely on agriculture and related industries, although efforts by the Town and RM of Craik No. 222 have been made to attract and develop industry related to the principles of environment, ecology and  sustainability. The community is committed to conserving what we have inherited and lessening our footprint on our local environment.

Town Office

The Town and the RM of Craik share office space located in the town of Craik and is situated just off main street at 600 Front Street. The office is open for business Monday to Thursday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. On Fridays the office is open from 8:30 am to 12:00 noon pm but closed to the public in the afternoon for office in-service. Residents are more than welcome to drop by to pay bills, find information or just to say hello!

Town Recycling

Remember to drop off you used plastic containers, newspapers, cardboard and tin cans at the town shop. There are large recycling bins outside the building on the south side. Please flatten your containers and cardboard as space is limited. (No Garbage Please!)

Collected products are then compressed into large "bales" and shipped away for recycling.

This program helps keep our community and environment clean. Please take advantage of it!                                                                Photo courtesy Craig Russell

Tree Chipping

Tree branch chipping has been suspended for the 2009 summer season. It will resume in early May of 2010.

For the most part chipping will be done each week on Tuesday, but some exceptions may occur over the summer. Please be patient, there is usually a long list of people waiting!

Thing to remember about our town chipping program:

  1. Please cut or break the "Y"s out of the branches so that they fit smoothly into the chipper.

  2. We can only handle branches that are "4" inches or less in diameter. Anything larger will have to be left for owner to dispose of.

  3. Please have all the branches laying in the same general direction.

  4. Call the town office to get on the chipping list - 734-2250.

  5. Please be patient!

Thank you!

Craik Cablevision

The town of Craik offers an inexpensive and comprehensive cable TV service to all town residents. Included in the package are local CTV, Global and CBC,  TSN and Rogers Sportsnet, news channels like CTV Newsnet and CNN and a variety of other channels for kids and adults. For information on pricing and hookups, please call the town office at 306-734-2250.

Public Works

The Town of Craik has recently welcomed a new town foreman to the post. Jason Hay, a new resident to the community, has taken on the job and is committed to serving the residents of Craik with professionalism and a strong work ethic. As well we have recently welcomed Brent Anderson to the town work force as the new assistant to Jason. Brent is a very personable employee and also displays a high level of professionalism. You will no-doubt see Jason and Brent around the town engaging in some of their many responsibilities which include:

  • grading and graveling of town streets

  • maintaining and servicing the town water plant and water meters

  • repairing potholes

  • snow removal and sanding

  • recycling

  • grass cutting and trimming

  • maintaining and servicing town equipment

The town's commitment to maintaining a high level of service to its residents has led to the purchase of a new town tractor! The new John Deere 6215 utility tractor is now hard at work on the streets around town. Equipped with a large capacity bucket, a fork lift attachment and three point hitch, the tractor will allow faster more efficient service to all residents and ensure that town equipment is of top quality now and for many years to come.

Craik Remembrance Day Program

The Craik Legion Brand #10 held a moving ceremony on Nov. 11 to mark Remembrance day 2009.

Special guest speaker

S/SGT John Hiebert of the RCMP told stories of his time in Bosnia as a peace keeper with the UN, Web Lee and Tom Ehman sang tribute to our fallen soldiers, Father Felipe lead the crowd in a prayer of Remembrance and everyone enjoyed a lunch and coffee after the event.

It was a wonderful ceremony and we are already looking forward to next year.

Be sure to attend as it is truly a moving experience!
